Since I got laid off I have been dying of boredom. I'll spare you too much detail since this is supposed to be a Sims blog and most people are following me to read my legacy or see my CC, not to hear my whining, but... ugh. So bored.

Husband lost his job too (company went under), so we're both dying of boredom over here. I have chosen to resolve this in two ways: (1) attempt to plan an adventure, either move very far away or at least visit (yay for savings! screw kids!); (2) craft, craft, CRAFT. Well, and play Sims, but that's a duh.

I've been posting my experimental crafts and baking projects on deviantART.

And, well, I can't keep all this crap I've been crafting, and I'm getting pretty poor, so I opened an etsy store. So far I just put up a few keychains as kind of a trial run.

And, lastly, I've created a blog to chronicle my successes and failures as a young woman struggling to find her place in the world. *dramatic swoon*

So, outside of Simming, that's what I've been up to. But for the rest of the day I will alternate between Simming and making things out of polymer clay while I watch Jon & Kate Plus 8.

The last time I updated this legacy was exactly a month ago today. I've been extremely busy and happy lately. This whole "work hard, earn money" thing that society tells you is important is just not my bag, baby. I think I'm gonna become a beatnik artist or something. One who plays with virtual dollies in her spare time, obviously.

Previously on Life in SV: All three boys are now teens who can hardly get a girl to look their way. But, most importantly, new house!

Warnings: There's some nips in this one. NIPS, I SAY!

I finished the Gameplay Guide for paintings on the Wiki about five minutes ago. The last section I needed to do was the Still-Lifes section, and Saye helped! She made all the example still-lifes. Something about that makes me giggly.

I'm falling back into old habits of creating and testing and fiddling more than actually playing the game, but at least I'm having fun either way. I think I'm putting off playing 'cause Saye is an elder now and I don't want her to die! I've never played a Sim to their death before. xP

It's been almost three weeks since I updated my legacy?? I seriously thought it was like one and a half. Hopefully I'll have time to update today then.

My real reason for posting was that I wanted to advertise that we can make hairs now! Woo! HP just posted up her tutorial on how to make hair for TS3, along side of Delphy releasing his hair-helping-making tool. You can find the tutorial (with the links to all needed tools) here.

I avoided making TS2 hair because it looked hard, and TS3 hair is even harder, but I'm going to at least look at it and give it a shot. They said pattern making was hard too, but it's really not all that bad.

I'm curious, what hairs would you like to see most converted to TS3? I'm looking at Raon mostly. HP is doing Nouk hairs with her permission. There were some Helga and Rose hairs I really liked, and even some Peggy ones. And it's always funny to see Peggy threaten legal action when she has no ground to stand on.

There are still patterns I want to make though! And make-up and facemasks and clothes! ARGH! That's it, I'm opening up a paysite so I can play computer games all time. Sorry, that's the way the cookie crumbles. *starts collecting blinkies for her own page of sparkle*

So apparently Delphy figured out how to make non-replacement hairs for TS3 and HP already uploaded two that she converted from TS2. Yay! My Sim dudes can have curly hair!

Also, Peggy apparently used their research to make her own hairs... and did the absolute minimum to get the hairs to work so that the coding is all screwed up in ways that I don't really get. I guess her hairs won't work without the store hairs she cloned them from? And she used Wes' plug-in for Milkshape, which explicitly states that it may not be used for profit. What a jerk.

From Wes H: "But it isn't right. I spent a *lot* of time getting these developed (with some help from my friends), and wrote the spec that is on the wiki for anyone. And I have been very clear about the terms of use. I shouldn't care, but it is irritating that she is leveraging my free tool for her profit."

So don't buy Peggy stuff! It's crap quality, illegal, and immoral. And evil. Don't forget about the evil.

I will gladly post her pay hairs here later if anyone really wants them. I don't have time to upload them right now though; I'm gonna be late for dinner after reading this crap! If you want the pay hairs anyway, they're already in The Booty.

Social activity is draining. I guess Summer is in full swing because people just keep wanting to do things. Yesterday it was the fair, tomorrow it's Sea World and a party. I skipped a play and a party today so I can just be alone. Husband said one of the guys from AFI was just hanging out at the small venue he saw a show at today, so I'm kind of sad I missed that though. Maybe I should just shut my pie hole though; I don't want to sound like a gloomypants. Today was a good day to just sit and relax in my favorite pajama pants.

I spent a good chunk of the day making a Guide to Paintings in The Sims 3 Wiki page. Did most (maybe all?) of the fact-finding myself so it should be accurate. Any feedback would be appreciated, by the way. Make sure I didn't word something awkwardly or some such... though I can't imagine too many people are really interested in studying up on that much game detail. xD

I've also continued working on my replacements for all 1580 paintings in the game. I'm almost 20% of the way done with phase II (of III)! At this rate it should be done in... two weeks? I guess it's a good thing I find repetitive tasks relaxing.

But, alas, I am two episodes behind on Weeds, and so today will end with me catching up. Keeping my fingers crossed that I get to see Mary-Louise Parker's boobies again!

I spent way too much time making patterns today. Ran into some issues, some didn't turn out well, made a couple of errors. Eyes now are sleepy. And I didn't get to work on my painting replacement mod like I wanted to. And now I have plans related to having a social life for up to the next five days.

May as well post previews of the patterns I submitted to MTS today... )</div>
The only one that wasn't a request was the chickens and strawberries one.

Also, I put for the TS2 conversion set that "some are under wood and some are under masonry," knowing it was obvious, but they rejected it and made me say it. xD

iTo be brief, I'm working on a set of replacements for the paintings in TS3. The ones that the little Simmies do themselves on the easel.

This means I need lots of paintings! If you are an artist and would like to perhaps see people's Sims painting your work, then, uh... gimmie some art! Must be painted, though digital painting is fine (no pencil drawings, markers, flat digital art, etc...). Again, it needs to look painted. It's an easel, after all.

You also have to agree in your head that you're not going to be sore at me if I don't put your art at the level you think it deserves! A lot of the art I've collected already is really good, so even good works are getting pretty low levels. Frankly, I need more stuff to put at a low level, so don't feel like 'omg I'm so not good enough snarf snarf.'

Also, this set ain't gonna be done particularly soon. It's a lot of work!

I just typed "help" into the cheat window to get a list of cheats, and the description for the "destroyallhumans" cheat is Poison their asses with poisonous gasses!

Did that come with the game? Please tell me it came with the game.

So today I told myself, "Self, I know you had a long and exhausting 4th of July, but you have been playing your legacy house for two days straight... Don't you think you should upload some of these pictures before you get too far ahead?" And, thusly, I responded, "Self, shut the fuck up." But, alas, I would not leave myself alone! So here's a really long update, covering yesterday and most of today.

Previously on Life in SV: Stiles retired and Saye bought the theater. Bret is an epic dork, Jermaine isn't and he knows it, and Dwight is... Dwight. Also, there is a distinct lack of female teens in this town.

Warnings: Meh.

All four of my pattern sets are up at MTS! I didn't think sets three or four would be up yet, but the mods are really on the ball today.

I don't know if it's really even necessary to post it here; I tend to assume that every avid Simmer just happens to check MTS ever day. But I want to, dammit! I am proud of me!

Notes:
  • I haven't played in a few days 'cause I been makin' patterns. I think I'm getting pretty decent at it! I finished four sets and submitted the first two to MTS yesterday, so they should be up in a couple of days. If you'd like a sneak peak here's the first set [pic 1/pic 2] and the second set [pic 1/pic 2].

  • Chapters 5, 6, and 7 ran out of bandwidth a few days ago. I had my fingers crossed that Photobucket would be nice and reset the bandwidth on July 1st, but, alas, no dice. So I manually went and put them all back up. Sorry to those who I made wait!

  • I shortened the title. Isn't it so fucking hip? Doesn't it make you feel young just looking at it?? /cleverfail

Previously on Life in SV: Dwight became a child, Jermaine remained a child, Bret became a fish-faced teenager, and Saye became a pop icon. That's... pretty much it. *shrug*

Warnings: Language and saggy old man titties.

Signing up for a new Photobucket account, the security image is "BURNS her." Something fails so I do it again and it's "get divorced." WTF?! Photobucket, you're an asshole.

Previously on Life in SV: Stiles became an elder, topped his career track as a hit movie composer, and met a drama llama of ghost. Saye reached level eight of her career as a lead guitarist, Jermaine became a child, and the whole family discovered the joys of the cemetery.

Warnings: Probably just language. Maybe other things.

This unemployment thing... I just have way too much time on my hands.

Previously on Life in SV: Saye and Stiles were elbow deep in poopies. Dwight and Jermaine are still toddlers, but Bret is a kid now. Hurrah! Also, my self-Sim moved in across the street.

Warnings: Probably just language. Maybe other things.

1) Last week was my last week of work. Summer freedom!!
2) I've been making patterns. They suck though.
3) This week I had jury duty, but they dismissed me after four hours of pure torture yesterday. More freedom!
4) When I got home from jury duty and sat down to do this update, I discovered my computer had contracted the System Security virus. It is a whore. I don't know where I got it; I've only been downloading from MTS, TSR, and MATY lately. Dun dun DUN.

Whatever.

Previously on Life in SV: Saye and Stiles forgot about their own hopes, dreams, and sense of self as that terminal STD known as "parenthood" fell upon them. Also, Saye started a garden.

Warnings: Probably just language. Maybe other things.

TS3 CC is barely getting underway and I'm already going overboard... I downloaded a bunch of patterns from TSR and one promptly borked my game so I had to use to 50/50 method to locate it. Also, a bunch of patterns I downloaded are in the "Misc" category when something named "leather" should probably be in the, oh let's say, the leather category. A bunch of them aren't tiled too, but you can't tell because TSR's "fancy" little Workshop auto-uploader does not give a tiled preview. Also, if you run these files through the Compressorizer they pop. The ones using Delphy's pattern packager compress fine, but TSR's can't handle the pressure, hurrr.

I did get some really cute patterns though. Two strawberry patterns! Woo! Strawberries are an obsession of mine.

Anyway, poor Saye and Stiles have been victims of my experimenting lately. I'll probably update their legacy tonight or tomorrow, but for most of today I've been downloading and *gasp* creating patterns. Still working on the finer points.

But now the for real anyway... I made a plumbbob! See, I end every school year with my math students by making them build a three dimensional solid out of cardboard, decorate it for several days, and then calculate the surface area and volume. I like to build one too, so this year I made a plumbbob.

Wanna see? )

It's made of twelve isoceles triangles, each with a base or 5.5 inches and a height of 10 inches. The height of each hexagonal pyramid is 9.75 inches. Calculate the surface area and volume! GO!

Why is it than when I look for the download instructions for HP's new "no music effects" mod I get instructions for installing panties??

Basic Download and Install Instructions:

1. Purchase Panties

2. Extract from Package

3. Put around ankles and raise to waist

4. Check yourself out in a mirror and send pics to Delphy

Nononoooo!

P.S. Yay for no more music notes in my millions of pics of Saye and Stiles playing guitar!

This is last night and tonight. Between trying to get the last four chapters back up and an all new John & Kate Plus 8 (where they actually almost spoke to each other) this one's on the short side (60-something images? Is that short?) but there's video too! Oooo, look at me and my fancy YouTubin'.

Previously on Life in SV: Sims 3 labor is lulzy, couch make-outs are cute, Stiles is a cleaning machine, and Saye is puking again.
